I recently attended a workshop where we focused on our flash skills. We had a gorgeous couple model for us all day long. They had recently been married and were such troopers – smiling repeatedly, braving the cold weather, being affectionate with one another, taking our instructions for posing and trying not to kiss one another (as a way to save the lipstick she had on!). Did I mention that they were incredibly stylish and modern? Check out his pants – I had never seen anything like it – with a wide stripe down the side, and they were short, almost like a “flood pant” (just above the ankle).
I have always loved photographing room decor…and this workshop did not disappoint! The colour scheme was rich, deep colours. It reminded me of a Fall themed wedding with dark plums, rust, deep blues. The venue had an interesting mix of wood elements including a sliding barn door, dark blue armchairs, industrial overhead doors, a juliet balcony and modern metal chairs around the guest table.
Flowers were used not only in the bouquet and boutinniere, but also as a runner down the guest table and on the cake table. Dark reds, blues and greens were mixed with bright creams and oranges.
The rustic wood table was set against a brick wall. It held seating place cards, a white arrangement of flowers and this unique brown-black drip cake with berries on top.
As the day wore on, the sun started to set and we were able to grab some terrific sunset photos. It was quite cold out, so we opted to have the couple stand inside the industrial overhead door, which was raised for a short time as we all took our photos. The Mr. & Mrs. sign was a terrific addition to these images.
Besides the dark, moody colours of the flowers and decor, another big theme of the space was all the string lights draped around the guest table. When the sun set, it allowed the glow of these lights to really become magical. I love the photos I got of the couple during this time of the day.
The last part of our day was to take the couple outside and work with sparklers. The real magic of these pictures is the glow from inside the venue, all those beautiful string lights.
