Whether you are single, married or coupled up for this Valentine’s Day, there is more to this holiday than just being “the most romantic day of the year”!

How Did Valentine’s Day Come About?

Although the origin of Valentine’s Day is not entirely known, one story tells of Roman Emperor Claudius II who declared marriage illegal because he thought a married man was a bad soldier. A man named Saint Valentine did not agree with this decision and continued to marry men and women in secret. When Claudius found out about this, Valentine was thrown into jail and sentenced to death. However, he fell in love with the jailer’s daughter and when he was sentenced to die on February 14th, he wrote her a love letter that was signed “from your Valentine”.

Even back then, it was traditional for men and women to exchange flowers on their wedding day, as a sign of good luck and the start of a “blooming” relationship.

Valentine’s Day Facts:

• Every year, more than 36 million heart shaped boxes of chocolates are sold across the country.
• The average man spends $130 on Valentine’s Day, while women spend about $70.
• Don’t forget about your pets! Every year, around 9 million people buy their pets a Valentine’s Day gift.
• February 14th is the second largest card giving day of the year, just after Christmas. This year, it’s expected that 1 billion cards will be exchanged around the world.
• Teachers receive the most Valentine’s Day cards, followed by kids, mothers, wives and girlfriends.
• Hallmark was one of the first to mass produce a Valentine’s Day card, all the way back in 1913.
• More than one-third of men are comfortable not receiving anything from a lover on Valentine’s Day.
• Ordering a bouquet? Have it tied in lace. The word “lace” comes from the Latin laques, meaning “to snare or net,” as in to catch a person’s heart

Valentine Itty Bitty Sessions

It’s always fun to have kiddo’s in the studio for a holiday photo session! And these kids did not disappoint – especially when mom and dad have outfitted them in beautiful Valentine outfits, curled their hair, and are ready to lend a hand to help me get some amazing smiles from each of them! Although I cannot share all of the sessions that I did (due to parent request), here’s a couple to swoon over!
